What exactly is Semi Permanent Makeup?
Semi Permanent Makeup is essentially the tattooing of the skin with a semi permanent pigment. Pigment is inserted under the skin of the client with a Semi Permanent Tattooing machine by a certified practitioner. There are various forms of Semi Permanent Makeup tattooing. The three most common treatments are Semi Permanent Eyebrow Tattooing, Semi Permanent Lip Liner & Blush Tattooing, and Semi Permanent Eyeliner Tattooing. More recently, the industry has seen a significant increase in beauty spot tattooing, individuals having freckles tattood on – and males having their balding hairlines tattood – among many other things. How long does Semi Permanent Makeup last?
Semi Permanent Makeup treatments can vary dramatically from client to client – but the industry standard advice is that the treatment should last for between 12 and 18 months. Please note, though, that this is just a guide. Occasionally, have seen clients who have had treatments disappear in under 12 months – and other who have been lucky enough for the
treatment to last for over 2 years! It depends entirely on how quickly the client’s skin regenerates. Most clients return to the clinic where they received their treatment after around 12-18 months for their Top Up procedure.
Can anybody do Semi Permanent Makeup for me?
The short answer is no. Semi Permanent Makeup is a highly specialised treatment and must be delivered by an accredited practitioner. At Model Standards, all of our SPMU technicians were trained and certified at Dermace – who are one of Europe’s leading Semi Permanent Makeup Training companies. We chose Dermace – because they are audited and monitored by all of the industries biggest authorities, including HABIA, BABTAC and ABT Insurance. What does all of that mean? Basically, it means we have been trained by one of the world’s most sought after Semi Permanent Makeup training providers. We went through rigorous training & examinations to ensure that we can perform at the highest standard.
If you are considering investing in a Semi Permanent Makeup treatment – we highly suggest that you ask for evidence of SPMU accreditation & certification. Otherwise, you’re putting your face, aesthetics & health at serious risk.
How long does the treatment take?
Initially, you will have a consultation. This is a 20 minute session where your technician will work with you to establish your wants & needs – and will help you decide how the treatment should look. Once you’ve agreed on a treatment & planned Treatments vary depending on the area being tattooed – but the brow tattoo & lip tattoo treatments will take approximately 2 hours to complete. You’ll then come back for a top up after about 4-6 weeks – which should take about one hour. Other treatments, like freckle tattooing, can take significantly less time.

Do Semi Permanent Makeup treatments hurt?
Some treatments can feel uncomfortable, but they should never hurt. Numbing cream is used to anesthetise the area which you’re having the treatment on – such as LMX cream. We have worked closely with Dermace to ensure that every client we work with is in no pain during the treatment.
After the treatment, the area can be tender and sore to touch. The skin gets broken, and pigment is injected underneath – so this is expected. Almost all of our clients have explained that the process didn’t bother them in the slightest!
