As we raise our eyebrows, the frontalis muscle contracts causing forehead lines/wrinkles above the brow. Over time these forehead lines become more prominent and a number of factors can make them worse, including genetics, age, and smoking.
Similar to forehead lines, frown lines are vertical lines between and above your eyebrows, caused by muscle contractions when frowning along with ageing skin.
Forehead lines occur naturally but there are a number of factors that can affect them, including:
Ageing – The proteins collagen and elastin, which keep skin flexible and tight, break down as we age, causing the skin to sag more. This results in furrows and a decreased skin's capacity to "bounce back" from facial emotions.
Genetics – our genes have an impact on how easily our skin may wrinkle, furrow, and efficiently repair itself, therefore some people are more susceptible to facial wrinkles, especially forehead lines.
UV exposure – Overexposure to the sun's rays can speed up ageing and cause collagen to break down, giving one a prematurely aged appearance.
Repetitive facial expressions – repeatedly raising the brow when expressing emotions can have a lasting effect on the skin.
Smoking – The amount of blood that reaches the skin's surface is decreased by chemicals in cigarette smoke, this directly impacts how many essential nutrients are delivered to the skin. In turn, this causes the skin to become dry or discoloured and more prone to wrinkles.
Diet – a diet that is filled with simple sugars can cause loss of elasticity in the skin, contributing towards deep lines on the forehead.
Forehead lines can be treated in many ways, with both surgical and non-surgical options.
Morpheus8 and Forma skin tightening work to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin deep within the skin resulting in smoother, plumper skin.
Botox Anti-Wrinkle Injections work to block nerve signals and muscle movement at the injection point — meaning the injected muscle can no longer contract as tightly, causing fine lines & wrinkles to relax and soften, and stops the deepening of these lines.
Our Model Standards clinicians will analyse your forehead lines and determine the best course of action for you. Usually, we can significantly reduce and smooth forehead lines with a course of Morpheus8 or Forma, however, in some cases we may recommend Botox for deeper lines.
Depending on the depth of your forehead lines, you could notice significant results after the first treatment alone. However, we usually recommend a course of treatments to ensure optimal results.
All of our clients first come in for a consultation. The consultation is there to talk you through your options, give you a patch test and check for any medical issues. The consultation costs £50 but this comes off the price of the treatment package that you go with. At your consultation, one of our nurse clinicians will talk you through options and get you booked in for your first treatment.
